Disturbed total internal reflection study of the structure of polymethylmethacrylate boundary layers

Popis: The disturbed total internal reflection (DTIR) method has been used to study the boundary layer structure of PMMA formed on a solid support. The 1·2–2·0 μm thick layer nearest to the boundary layer between the phases has been established to contain more densely packed macromolecules than the remaining volume. The reason for this is shown to be a restriction of the macromolecular conformations and a redistribution towards a concentration increase of the more stable conformer in the boundary layer.
