Atomic spectrometry still offers the most suitable analytical techniques for routine analysis of lithium in samples of widely different nature. An exception might be constituted by the neutral carrier ion-selective membrane electrode, the development of which is very promising1. However, its selectivity relative to sodium is not yet adequate for it to be applied in analysis connected with the therapy of manic-depressive psychosis. Nevertheless, the prospects in the field of analytical electrochemistry should be followed up closely, the more so because microelectrodes, in contrast to spectrometric techniques, permit in situ analysis. |
