The population dynamics of introduced associative nitrogen fixers belonging to various genera (Azospirillum, Arthrobacter, Flavobacterium, Agrobacterium) in the rhizoplane of homologous and nonhomologous plants with respect to the origin of their initial isolation (rice, wheat, ryegrass, oat, barley, Pe-tsai cabbage) was studied in pot experiments. The overall pictures of survival of the studied strains on roots of plants were similar in appearance, even though the population size and dynamics of the introduced bacteria depended on the plant genotype. No correlation was established between survival of bacteria and their effect on plant development. It was concluded that the effect of inoculation can not predicted using the data on the population size of the introduced bacteria. |
