Popis: From March 5 to 14, 1998 in Nagano, Japan the Winter Paralympic Games were held for the first time in Asia [1]. Nagano is located in the central part of Japan, and is known as a mecca for mountain climbing and winter sports. The Nagano Association of Occupational Therapists (NAOT) was asked by the Nagano Paralympic Organizing Committee (NAPOC) to participate as volunteers in helping to plan and manage accessibility issues. The NAOT established a task force to carry out four major activities: (1) assess and inspect accessibility and seating for wheel chair (w/c) visitors in four different athletic fields and gyms; (2) implement educational and informative activities for volunteers; (3) serve as consultants for the assessment of hotel accommodation; (4) provide recreational opportunities in the Paralympic village. This report briefly describes the results of the first three NAOT activities; the fourth is described in a separate paper.
