In this work a new strategy for selective heterogeneous electrochemiluminescent detection of representative members of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), namely rubrene and 9,10-diphenylanthracene is introduced. This strategy is based on a suitable selection of a co-reactant in order to meet the thermodynamic requirements necessary for emission of electrochemiluminescence by abovementioned analytes, which are immobilized on the electrode. Further rational choose of coreactant (i.e., benzoyl peroxide, persulfate, tripropylamine, tetraphenylborate) could lead to selective quantification of target PAH among many other PAHs in detection mixture. The method can be useful for distinguishing PAHs in environmental monitoring and clinical assays assuming different level of their cancerogenity. |
