Popis: Robust design methods such as the worst case, random variable calculus and Monte Carlo simulation are useful in minimizing undesirable effects on product reliability, quality and dependability. While the Monte Carlo method provides meaningful qualitative and quantitative results, it has been difficult to implement without specialized computer software. A new preliminary robust design methodology has been developed which overcomes this problem. New spreadsheet features and advanced modeling techniques are presented which implement the Monte Carlo simulation approach. The preliminary robust design of a transmission shaft is presented which illustrates the new modeling techniques.
