Efficient Methods for Analysis of Flows in Grooved Annuli

Popis: Effects of different forms of grooves/ribs on the pressure losses are studied. Because of an uncountable number of possible shapes, an efficient method for modeling of the surface topography needs to be created as well as an efficient method for the solution of the governing equations for flows in domain bounded by grooved surfaces needs to be developed. Fourier‐expansion‐based representation of surface topography is used and this provides a low‐order modeling of the surface geometry. Spectrally‐accurate method for solution of the field equations based on the Fourier‐Chebyshev expansions is used. It can be shown that the effects of the grooves may be decomposed into (i) effects due to the change in the average position of each cylinder and (ii) effects due to the shape of the grooves.
