Luminescence study of Eu- and Cu-doped natural alkali feldspars and quartz and some problems of palaeodosimetry

Popis: Natural alkali feldspars and natural and synthetic quartz were activated with Eu- and Cu-ions by means of thermodiffusion. Due to activation, new intensive bands appeared in the X-ray-induced luminescence. On the basis of the study of spectra of emission and excitation of Eu- and Cu-doped alkali feldspars it is shown that Eu 2+ and Cu + recombination centers are created. It is confirmed that optical and thermostimulated depopulation of traps, used in the luminescence dating, lead to electron recombination processes. The infrared part of the optically stimulated luminescence stimulation spectra of alkali feldspars has a single maximum at 880 nm, which does not depend on activators. The stimulation spectra of synthetic and natural quarts are similar and differ from those for alkali feldspars.
