Increasing demand for camptothecins (CPTs) in pharma segment as a potent chemotherapeutic agent lead to the destruction of Camptotheca acuminata and Nothapoytes foetida, two approved sources of the drug. Being trees with slow growth and prolonged juvenile period, cultivation though a best alternative not a complete solution. The long-term alternative is production of CPT by using biotechnological strategies. Cell, tissue, and organ cultures play a promising role to produce CPT. In this chapter various approaches for in vitro CPT production is reviewed. |
