Popis: | The effects of boron, carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus ion implantation on the friction and wear behaviour of phosphor bronze pins sliding on phosphor bronze discs were investigated. Significant and persistent beneficial effects of ion implantation on both friction and wear are reported. Since there is no apparent change in the wear mechanism, these effects are attributed to the increased hardness of the metastable solid solution surface alloys that are produced by ion implantation. The practical implications of these results are discussed. |
