The castle continued to feature as a source of inspiration for Scottish architects throughout our period. It was used in a number of different ways, sometimes combined with new, classical buildings but also on its own as new-build, restoration or even completion of an existing castle. This chapter looks at an important formative period, from the Restoration to the Act of Union, when Glamis Castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse were remodelled and entirely new castles, like Methven, were built. |
