Popis: The new 4-quinolones such as ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin, and ofloxacin are strongly bactericidal, with activities approaching 1000 times that of nalidixic acid [12]. They are effective against a wider range of bacteria, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa and gram-positive cocci, which are considered resistant to nalidixic acid [6]. The activity of this family of drugs may be due to inhibition of bacterial DNA synthesis [5, 12]. Due to the great potential for the clinical use of these drugs it is important to investigate any possible positive or negative side effects on the host defense system.
