A suction rotating cowl installed on the roof of a farm building was tested in order to determine the static pressures developed as a function of the air flow rates at various wind speeds. For the range of wind speeds for which the cowl was tested, very low static pressures were observed. This cowl could be effective in low-temperature grain drying if the initial moisture content of the grain is low, i.e. below 20% wet basis, and the grain is loaded to a depth below 400 mm. This application may, however, require a parallel arrangement of a number of cowls. |
