Popis: The energy absorptions of crashworthy structures composed of welded aluminium alloys were evaluated using finite element analysis (FEA). In the FEA, a damage-mechanics model was employed as a material model for the parent aluminium alloys and the welding materials. For the welded regions, several combinations of material parameters included in the damage-mechanics model were examined. Using the numerical results, sensitivity of the energy absorption to the material parameters was assessed. Results of the sensitivity study clarified which parameters had the largest effect on the energy absorption.
