Congenital pelvic venous malformations comprise a small portion of the myriad of documented vascular anomalies and can be distinguished from defects found in vena cava development. The following case demonstrates a patient with a novel separation of the right internal iliac vein with drainage into the proximal left common iliac vein. A 30-year-old male presented to the institution with a chief complaint of abdominal pain, constipation, and bloating. After further work up, a Computed Tomography with contrast of the abdomen and pelvis was performed. This demonstrated a split right internal iliac vein draining into proximal left common iliac vein as well as an associated duplication of the right renal collecting system. Correct identification and documentation of these anomalies continues to warrant high priority with respect to interventional procedures such as placement of inferior vena cava filters and when planning various intra-abdominal and intra-pelvic surgeries. |
