Popis: Eleven moth bean genotypes were evaluated under extreme arid environment of Jaisalmer during Kharif 2008 for their adaptability to extreme arid environment. Genotypes varied significantly in growth, yield and overall adaptability. Genotypes GMO-03-06 produced maximum seed and straw yield while CZM-1 produced the minimum. The cluster analysis based on growth and yield parameters grouped genotypes into two clusters. Cluster-1 consists of early flowering (33.6 days) genotypes with smaller above ground biological frame but larger sink capacity. Cluster-2 consists of late flowering (38.2 days) genotypes with larger biological frame and poor harvest index. Index of yield attributes, index of productivity, index of sink and index of plant structure were the four principal components explaining 80.6 % variability in the genotypes. These indexes could be used as a parameter to identify suitable moth bean genotypes for extreme arid environment. Soil–water balance model revealed superiority of cluster-2 genotypes over cluster-1 moth bean genotypes.
