Evaluation of LFP battery performed by high-resolution neutron diffraction technique

Popis: Evaluation of lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4 or LFP) batteries using ex-situ neutron diffraction technique using High-Resolution Powder Diffractometer HRPD DN3 of BATAN have been done for the first time to study domestic LFP lithium-ion secondary batteries. The evaluation includes the identification of emerging phases, their structure, and quantitative analysis in accordance with various state of charge (SOC) of the batteries. The results from Rietveld refinement of the neutron diffraction data show the formation of LiFePO4 and FePO4 following LiFePO4 ↔ FePO4 reversible transformation and also the formation and transformation of graphite in the form of C and LiCn. The quantity of these phases is found to be directly proportional to the state of charge of the batteries. These results also provide evidence that the HRPD DN3 of BATAN is reliable for the evaluation of the multiphase system and expected to contribute to the development of Li-ion batteries in Indonesia.
