In marine industries, especially in the maritime industry still using fuel oil massively. It produces a big amount of pollution to the atmosphere and becoming one of the main factors the global warming is happening. Increasing the efficiency of the energy that has been used in the ship is one of the solutions to overcome the problem. Winged Air Induction Pipe (WAIP) is a device that used, it will create micro-bubbles to coat the keel of the ship by pulling air through the induction pipe by the negative pressure produced by the hydrofoil. The different placement of the foil will also give the different results of the drag reduction experienced by the plate located after the hydrofoil. This research will see the different results of the drag reduction caused by different variations of angle of attack and chord length on foil NACA 653−618. One of the ways to see how those customization and setup affect the result is by using the k-ω SST (Shear Stress Transport) model in numerical simulation. By using this setup error on numerical results at 1.93% by comparing to previous experimental studies. The angle of attack of hydrofoil that gives the most efficiency for the ship. The drag reduction in this research can give 3% of efficiency on the model of the ship. |
