Popis: This work was aimed at determining the feasibility of using, in motor oils, succinimide additives obtained from less expensive and more readily available raw materials. The ethylene oligomers used in synthesizing the additives are residues from the vacuum distillation of the low-molecular-weight fractions of the oligomers and are considerably less expensive than the low-molecular-weight polybutene currently used in succinimide additive production. The production of ethylene oligomers also has advantages in terms of raw material availability. Two samples of additive were tested. Sample 1 was a bis-succinimide prepared from an ASA obtained by using an ethylene oligomer with a 514 molecular weight and 20.7 double bonds per i000 methylene groups; Sample 2 was the same type of bis, succinimide, from an oligomer with a 466 molecular weight and 24 double bonds.
