Popis:	The paper constitutes a memorial to Professor A.A. Mal'tsev. There is a brief survey of research on high-temperature molecular spectroscopy performed under his direction at the Chemical Faculty of Moscow University during 1960-1980. New methods are described, and basic results are given from research on vibrational spectra (IR and RS) and the electronic spectra of simple oxides and halides of various metals (including rare-earth ones) in the vapor state and in matrices obtained by Mal'tsev's group in 1982-4.
