Popis: The adult skeleton has two major functions: (1) to provide mechanical support and protection for the organism and (2) to regulate concentrations of key blood electrolytes which include Ca2+, Mg2+, H+ and HPO 4 2− . Bones of animals and humans undergo continuous change and remodelling. It is clear that the remodelling of the skeleton is controlled in a very complex fashion, that growth and remodelling take place in response to physical strain and that various hormones alter these processes.
