This chapter examines actor training in Ireland over the past half-century, exploring the kinds of training opportunities available, the mission statements of those training programmes, the course content and (where possible) the delivery methods of actor training. The discussion highlights the range of actor-training programmes offered, including dedicated training programmes, training modules that are part of a wider third-level degree and some short-lived training initiatives that were nevertheless impactful for the future of actor training. This chapter acknowledges that while there is no specific manual for training actors, the demands on them have expanded and varied in the age of post-modern, immersive, physical and devised theatre, as well as acting for camera. |
