Popis: Sustainable flood protection aims to give more space to channelised rivers. Our research looks at the capacity of widening river sections to enhance flood control and increase ecosystem diversity. Conventional approaches to determine the bed load transport capacity and discharge often yield inadequate results since they mostly rely on one-dimensional models. This article presents a flume study that allows for a better understanding of observations in nature. It is shown that the bed load input exerts at least as much influence on the river morphology as the discharge regime. A braided river morphology, often desired for ecological reasons, requires sufficient bed load supply. Therefore, it may be necessary to increase bed load input from upstream side brooks and to allow or promote lateral erosion.
