Popis: A brief description of the activity expansion model of partially-ionized plasmas is given. This model avoids the complexities of a fully quantum mechanical treatment by first carrying out a classical analysis and then replacing classical expressions with their quantum analogues. Comparisons with theory and recent laser shock experiments are presented.
