This paper describes a study which focused on how intelligent transportation systems (ITS) in cities could be implemented in order to facilitate a sustainable development. It involved a survey of transportation experts which combined backcasting and Delphi surveys. Four complete scenario descriptions are given, with a summary of reactions by the experts to the scenario descriptions. The scenarios were placed in the context of public transportation in urban settings and focused on the application of intelligent transportation systems. The scenarios covered car pooling, dynamic route choice, extended public transportation, and a dual mode vehicle system. |
