The purpose of this chapter is to examine the external collaboration networks of United States academics outside their university. Utilizing results of a social network analysis (SNA), the analysis showed how collaborative ties of academics in three public institutions in the United States are structured along various dimensions, from the employment status of the academic, to institutional type, to disciplinary field, to geographical orientation (local, national, and international), to linkages within and beyond academe. |
