In this paper, a two-point absorber ocean wave energy converter is modelled and analysed with a view to design an optimal controller to extract maximum mechanical wave power and convert it to electrical power. The control strategy employed is the Linear Quadratic Gaussian (LQG) control which will be designed in two stages. Firstly, the Kalman Filter is designed to estimate the non-measurable states and these are then fed to a linear quadratic regulator (LQR). The controller is then simulated with the wave energy converter (WEC) and the performance of controlled system is compared with the uncontrolled one. |
