Scalford-A bracteate: The article by Charlotte Behr is fascinating although, curiously, she does not attempt to identify the image nor to decipher the lettering. Behind the left shoulder is the typical representation of Thor's/ Donar's lightning arrows and the 'tassels' behind the head may also be lightning. The object below the left shoulder is possibly the quiver. Thor, as patron god of smiths, is often represented with a hammer but here there is no such symbol.
