It is essential in the development of a new orally available drug to get data about gastrointestinal absorption at a very early stage. The only model in use for Screening at present is the Caco-2 cell model. Although this cell line is derived from human colon its functionality is not the same as in humans, concerning metabolism, transport systems and the influence of the mucus. Therefore we developed a model basing on the use of pig intestine to get additiona information about these parameters but with the simplicity and user friendlyness of the Caco-2 cell as a Screening tool. |
