Dual-mode operation within a scramjet combustor is an efficient way to increase thrust level in supersonic regime, with little weight and thermal penalty if choking condition can be achieved thermally. To attain high thrust level in wide operation range, thermal choking within the diverging combustor is preferable, while little model to predict mode-transition within the diverging duct was proposed. In the present study, a one-dimensional model with fast chemistry was proposed and comparison with experiments showed good agreement, while kinetic effects were found in several cases. The prediction model was further extended to take the chemical kinetics into account, however, agreement was not sufficient, and further refinements were required. |
