Popis: The article is devoted to the study of the relations of Father John of Kronstadt and his diocesan Bishop – Metropolitan Isidore of Saint Petersburg (Nikolsky; 1799-1892), an outstanding pastor of his era. For the first time a unique historical source – the diary of Metropolitan Isidore – is used to study the relationship between Kronstadt pastor and a representative of the Orthodox hierarchy. The author of the article comes to the conclusion that in the diary we do not see any obvious hostility towards Father John. The tone of the notes in relation to him is rather neutral. The sarcasm of the author of the diary is directed at the admirers of Father John, primarily the representatives of the nobility. It can be concluded that Metropolitan Isidore did not have any personal attitude to Father John before 1883 as Isidore was hardly acquainted with him. In general, the figure of the Kronstadt pastor interested the Metropolitan only so far as he appeared in the public field and on the pages of newspapers, generated rumors, and was mentioned by influential people. At the same time, the diary entries, related to Father John were largely based on such rumors and conversations passed on to the Metrpolitan by those close to him.
