Popis:	Digital gazetteers are essential knowledgebase to associate heterogeneous data sets in the context of geographical proximity. There are some free digital gazetteers containing contemporary Japanese place names but not historical ones. This paper will describe the state of progress of Japanese historical gazetteer databases, and recent developments using semantic Web technologies to prepare for linked open data on cloud environment.
