Popis: | We present a neutron optics tool that improves the signal-to-noise ratio in neutron beam experiments with small samples. It shields the sample environment from irradiation while at the same time focusing the beam close to the sample. We show the design and application of a compact, space-saving neutron optics which is integrated into an existing cryostat fitted with a Paris Edinburgh press facilitating low temperature, high pressure experiments. The installation of this focusing COmpact Reflective Optics for Neutrons (CORON) on a powder diffractometer results in signal-to-noise gains up to 3.9. |
