Rayleigh light scattering, isothermal compressibility and Kerr constant of pure liquids. Agreement obtained with consistent theoretical relations

Popis: Consistent theoretical expressions of the depolarization ratio ρn and of the relative depolarized intensity ir in Rayleigh light scattering yield a simple suitable relation between the isothermal compressibility and those quantities. βT values thus calculated in thirty five pure liquids are compared experimental values and to values calculated with the classical relation. The values deduced from the new relation are in better accordance with the experimental results and the deviations are more randomly distributed. A suitable expression of the static Kerr constant B is also deduced from the same theoretical basis and applied to sixteen pure polar liquids. A good accordance between theory and experiment is observed when no strong specific interactions occur.
