Popis: | The hand-scaler used to rake out dental calculus loses its sharpness in a short period of time, because it frequently scratches the hardness of tooth surface and dental calculus. To restore its sharpness, the scaler must be sharpened after each scaling operation. However, the sharpness is often evaluated qualitatively by the feel of resistance, perceived when we put the scalers edge on our fingernail or synthetic resin. This study aims at establishing a more efficient sharpening system. We first converted the feel of resistance(cutting force)to the electric quantity to measure quantitatively the degree of sharpness. Furthermore, weexamined the relationship between the rake angle and the cutting force. As a result, the sharpness at the rake angle of-20° among-20°, -10° and0°, showed a tendency to decrease gradually in proportion to the length of cut. This results suggested an evaluation test of the scaler's sharpness should be performed under the quantitative data based on the cutting force at the rake angle of-20°. |
