The aim of our study is to review the biomarkers used in the monitoring of health status of medical personnel exposed to ionizing radiation (IR) from the almost 15 years follow-up records. The biodosimetry indicators were performed by micronucleus (MN) test in peripheral lymphocytes and also in oral mucosa epithelial cells. Also oxidative stress markers were performed. The discrete but permanent hematological changes and the constant oxidative imbalance detected during the long term monitoring of medical staff confirm the fact that these markers are suggestive in surveillance of health effects of occupational IR exposure along with the recommended cytochalasin-blocked micronucleus (CBMN) test. |
