The place of the University School of the Federal University of Maranhao is debated in the context of educational expansion in Sao Luis, analyzing conditions that moved polarizations in its trajectory: elitization / popularization. It is evaluated to what extent the tensions between the culture imposed by the school, as a secondary education institution, and a local / neighborhood culture manifested in singular practices, may have influenced the role, projection and consolidation of Colun after being restructured as an Application School at Sao Luis periphery. Information from local newspapers, laws, school files and interviews were used, which were crossed, analyzed and interpreted in the light of the theoretical and methodological assumptions of Cultural History. It is concluded that the confrontation between cultures (school and local) contributed to spread high school by popularizing its access, permanence and training. |
