Inspections, repairs and maintenance (IRM) actions are carried out periodically on many large structures, such as fixed offshore structures and bridges, to ensure the integrity of the structure. For fixed jacket platforms in the North Sea, the results of reliability-based fatigue fracture mechanics analysis can be used to target the most likely components requiring at least inspection and possibly repair. However as there are considerable costs associated with inspection and maintenance of platforms, it is necessary to optimise the IRM plans whilst keeping risk within acceptable limits. Further, it is a practical and absolute requirement that all plans conform to any guidelines set out by the governing authorities. |
