Popis: | Raman microscopy has been used as a non-destructive technique for analysing gaseous or solid inclusions in optical fibres or preforms. Two alternative Raman geometries using 90° and 180° scattering were evaluated, and the latter found to be more effective for these samples. Examples of glass inclusion analysis are provided by the identification of 10 µm LaF3 microcrystals, oxygen in 4 µm diameter bubbles and the differentiation of carbon allotropes in fluoride glass fibres. |
