Popis: The application of multichannel pulsed Raman spectroscopy for the determination of spatial distribution of molecular species in a four stroke commercial engine has been investigated. The Raman spectral images, obtained for various crank angles, enable one to visualize simultane-ously the spatial distribution of N 2 , O 2 , fuel, CO 2 , CO and H 2 O species along 15mm of the scattering path of the laser beam with a spatial resolution of about one mm. Strong heterogeneity of the analysed volume, in relation with the turbulent propagation of the flame in the engine, was observed between 381° and 392° crank angles.
