Popis: | Study of cold start focusing on the stack as well as single cell is being performed at FCDDL to predict the cell/stack freeze-out, performance limitations and to reduce the start-up time. In the present work, a transient one-dimensional thermal model for a generic PEFC stack was developed to predict the temperature distribution and the start-up time. For a 20 cell size generic stack, the model predicted almost 12-15 ºC temperature difference between the end cell and center cell. A fundamental thermodynamic analysis was also performed to estimate the supersaturation required for the ice formation in the fuel cell components. The development of a coupled thermal and water transport model for the cold start of a single fuel cell is ongoing at the FCDDL. The developed single cell model will help to investigate the individual cell characteristic in the PEFC stack. |
