Popis: When solid metal surfaces are bombarded with energetic ions slow particles are emitted in both neutral and ionized states. The collision cascades produced by the penetrating ions can lead to spatial disorder at the metal surface. The influence of this local disorder on the electron dynamics is studied by means of computer simulation, and using the chain transformation. The formation of secondary ions is found to be strongly related to the electronic properties at the surface.
