Popis: | The authors have carried out a laboratory study of the influence of temperature, atmospheric oxygen, and storage time on the formation of acids and esters (the latter being characterized by the saponification number). The results from this study indicate that elevated temperatures and contact with atmospheric oxygen accelerate the chemical reactions without changing their direction or the ratios among the products that are formed. A 10/sup 0/C increase in temperature, as usual, doubles the rate of the chemical reactions. The data shown also confirm the influence of temperature on the rate of chemical conversions of ethylcellosolve during storage in 200-liter steel drums in unheated buildings in different climatic zones. |
