Popis: | IN CLINICAL otosclerosis, cochlear involvement often appears in variable degree. On the basis of clinical and histological investigations it is justified to assume that otosclerosis can be the cause of this damage of the cochlear part of the inner ear. At present it is considered probable that otosclerosis may even cause pure inner ear deafness in some cases. The action of otosclerosis being so clear regarding the cochlea, the question naturally arises whether otosclerosis can have a disturbing influence on the function of the vestibular organ, too. Investigations on this are apparently more scarce than hearing studies. Hulk and Jongkees 1 verified that 30% of patients with otosclerosis felt undetermined symptoms of vertigo. In these patients the cupulogram produced certain changes in vestibular reactivity and sensibility. Reinecken 2 found electronystagmographic changes in 25% of unoperated upon cases. Fisch's 3 material comprised 52 unoperated cases. In 15 of these (28.8%) there |
