Time resolution of a liquid argon detector

Popis: The time resolution of LAr detectors depends strongly on FET transconductance, detector capacitance, trapping impurities and shaping time. Different versions of RC-CR filters are considered in this paper. Application of simple configurations was shown to give a time resolution close to the theoretical limit. High purity argon was found not to have any advantage over commercially available argon (∼ 10 −6 oxygen scale) at short (200–500 ns) signal processing times. Increasing the processing time for pure argon allows one to obtain a time resolution up to ∼ 8 ns for a minimum ionizing particle and a detector capacitance of about 100 pF.
