Popis: A blockage tolerant test section based on a modified Parkinson’s design allows tests up to Re = 4.3 × 105. A schlieren method is used to visualise boundary and free shear layers emanating from a slightly heated circular cylinder. Colour photographs are presented to illustrate the separation of boundary layers and the breakaway of free shear layers in the range 0.4 × 105 < Re < 4.3 × 105. The shift of the separation point for rising and falling Re exhibited a considerable hysteresis.
