Bismuth content and growth-induced anisotropy in YLuBiIG

Popis: Epitaxial films of YLuBiLG have been grown on various substrates from both pure Bi 2 O 3 and PbO−Bi 2 O 3 mixed flux. Using lattice constants and Curie temperature measurements, the Bi content of these films was determined and correlated with the growth-induced anisotropy, K ug . For a given flux composition K ug increased linearly with Bi content but no saturation was observed up to 8 X 10 4 erg / cm 3 . Films grown from pure Bi 2 O 3 flux contained more Bi but had relatively lower K ug than films grown from a mixed flux. No evidence for ion pairing as a K ug generating mechanism was observed. The lead content of these films is less than 0.05 atom per formula unit.
