Three-dimensional behavior of MHD plasma near electrode of MHD generator

Popis: Three-dimensional interactions between gasdynamics and electrodynamics near electrode in a supersonic Faraday type MHD generator are studied by means of numerical analyses. Time-dependent three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations without a turbulence model are solved by using an explicit TVD method, while the steady three-dimensional Maxwell equations together with the generalized Ohm's law are solved with Galerkin FEM and GMRES scheme for linear equations. The following results are obtained. (1) Periodic spots of current concentration along the magnetic field are obtained as a result of three-dimensi onal interaction. (2) A boundary layer separation is induced at arcing spots, whereas the flow is strongly accelerated between the arcing spots. (3) The Hall effect and the effect of back flow is balanced and therefore the arcing spots do not move. (4) Three-dimensional vortex is produced near the arcing spots, caused by the three-dimensional MHD interaction.
