Popis: The application of mass spectrometric techniques to the study of the copolymer (CF3NOCH2)n is described. Under favourable conditions the copolymer gives mass spectra with a fragmentation pattern which repeats at intervals corresponding to the mass of the “monomer” unit. It is suggested that these spectra are characteristic of the copolymer structure. The copolymer vapour was shown to be thermally unstable and preliminary investigations into the kinetics of the resulting depolymerization reactions are described. Measurements of heats of volatilization are reported on a copolymer sample which had sufficient volatility to enable it to be examined mass spectrometrically.
