Superratio and the simple ratios ofπ+andπ−elastic scattering onH3andHe3at 180 MeV to investigate charge symmetry

Popis: | Results are presented for the charge-symmetry superratio {ital R}, simple ratios {ital r}{sub 1} and {ital r}{sub 2}, and the differential cross sections of {pi}{sup +} and {pi}{sup {minus}} elastic scattering on {sup 3}H and {sup 3}He: {ital R}={ital r}{sub 1}{ital r2}, {ital r}{sub 1}={sigma}({theta})({pi}{sup +} {sup 3}H{r arrow}{pi}{sup +} H)/{sigma}({theta})({pi}{sup {minus}} He{r arrow}{pi}{sup {minus}} {sup 3}He), and {ital r}{sub 2}={sigma}({theta})({pi}{sup {minus}} {sup 3}H{r arrow}{pi}{sup {minus}} H)/{sigma}({theta})({pi}{sup +} {sup 3}He {r arrow}{pi}{sup +} {sup 3}He). The measurements were made at {ital T}{sub {pi}}=180 MeV and {theta}{sub {pi}}(lab)=40{degree}--90{degree}; some data were obtained at {ital T}{sub {pi}}=143 MeV also. At all angles, {ital R}{gt}1 and {ital r}{sub 2}{gt}1 indicative of a violation of charge symmetry; however, we also find that {ital r}{sub 1}{congruent}1. Our data are consistent with {ital F}{sub {ital p}}({sup 3}H){congruent}{ital F}{sub {ital n}}({sup 3}He) and {ital F}{sub {ital n}}({sup 3}H){gt}{ital F}{sub {ital p}}({sup 3}He), where {ital F}{sub {ital p}} and {ital F}{sub {ital n}} are the proton and neutron matter form factors. {sigma}({theta})({pi}{sup {plus minus}} {sup 3}H{r arrow}{pi}{sup {plus minus}} H) decreases with increasing magnitude of the four-momentum transfer {ital t} up to {theta}{sub c.m.}{congruent}70{degree}; the {ital t} dependence of the {ital F} 's is comparable to that ofmore » the electromagnetic form factors. {sigma}({theta})({pi}{sup {minus}} H{r arrow}{pi}{sup {minus}3}H) has a non-spin-flip dip at {theta}{sub c.m.}{congruent}78{degree}.« less |
